CENTRAL WEST END NEIGHBORHOOD SECURITY INITIATIVE
The Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative (NSI) was formed in 2007 to respond more efficiently to crime. In that time, the initiative has excelled in bringing accountability to its supplemental bicycle patrols and has adopted the latest security tools and strategies. In addition to proactive crime prevention patrols and equipment, the NSI has taken advantage of effective communication with law enforcement and prosecution. NSI also works to educate and empower the Central West End Community.
The NSI is made up of three full-time personnel and sponsored by six Special Business Districts along with Washington University Medical Center.
WHAT WE DO
This program works closely with Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department, supplemental security companies, the Central West End residents and businesses to unify prevention efforts and respond more efficiently to crime as a community.
Since the start of the initiative in 2007, the NSI has assisted in a 42.74% decrease in overall crime in the Central West End!
Person crime (assault, homicide, rape and robbery) decreased 40%, and property crime (arson, burglary, larceny, and vehicle theft) decreased 43.06%.
