St. Louis Police are investigating after Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative (NSI) cameras captured an early morning shooting on August 29.

Around 5:11 a.m. near the intersection of Taylor Avenue and Lindell Boulevard, video footage shows a man being shot in the back in what appears to be an attempted robbery. St. Louis Police are reviewing the images to determine what happened and will provide further updates on the details of the video. The NSI will continue assisting during this investigation.

In the Central West End, there are more than 120 cameras operating 24 hours daily, as part of the NSI's ongoing efforts to keep the community safe.

"The Central West End is a safe neighborhood," said Jim Whyte, Executive Director of the NSI. "We have a broad video security system, thousands of security patrols and well-lit streets and alleyways. Tuesday’s incident was an unfortunate random act of violence that could have happened anywhere.”

The Central West End is one of the most densely populated areas in the region, with 30,000 to 40,000 people traveling through the neighborhood every day. As with any large city, officials recommend keeping safety at the forefront, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid walking alone at night.
